LaCie Unleashes the Rugged SSD4: High-Performance Storage for Creatives on the Move

Seagate has just pulled the wraps off its latest creation for creatives who refuse to be tied down: the LaCie Rugged SSD4. This brand-new, high-performance portable SSD is a palm-sized powerhouse, offering up to 4TB of storage to meet the demanding needs of today's content creators and digital nomads.

Designed for life on the go, the LaCie Rugged SSD4 measures in at a compact 105.34 x 66.87 x 17.33 mm and weighs a mere 108g. It features the iconic orange protective bumper, wrapped around a sleek, brushed metal enclosure. But it's not just about looks; this drive is built to withstand the elements. With an IP54 rating, it’s resistant to dust and water, and has been engineered to survive a 3-meter (9.8-foot) drop and endure a one-ton car's crush resistance, ensuring your data remains safe even in the harshest environments.

Connectivity is state-of-the-art. The drive is equipped with a USB4 Type-C port that offers blazing-fast data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps. It’s also fully compatible with Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, and the upcoming Thunderbolt 5 standard, making it a versatile companion for a wide range of devices.

The LaCie Rugged SSD4 is available in three capacities: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. Each drive comes with the peace of mind of a three-year warranty, which includes Seagate's Rescue Data Recovery Services. As a bonus for creatives, the purchase also includes a two-month Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps plan, giving you access to powerful tools like Adobe Firefly. In line with Seagate's commitment to sustainability, the drive is constructed with at least 35% recycled materials by weight, making it a more eco-friendly backup solution.

This portable SSD boasts broad compatibility, working seamlessly with macOS, iPadOS, iOS, Windows, ChromeOS, Android, and even gaming consoles. For mobile videographers, it's a game-changer, supporting direct ProRes video recording from an iPhone. You can capture and store 4K footage at 120fps directly to the drive without any intermediate transcoding. The 4TB model, for instance, can hold up to 143 minutes of this high-quality footage.

Seagate has announced pricing for the LaCie Rugged SSD4, with the 1TB model listed at $134.99, the 2TB at $249.99, and the flagship 4TB version at $479.99.
