Gigabyte Unveils AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX: A Thunderbolt 5 eGPU with a Claimed 5% Performance Loss

During its recent "Beyond Edge" online event, Gigabyte announced the AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX, an external GPU solution designed to bring desktop-class power to laptops. The enclosure comes equipped with a full-fledged NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB graphics card, distinguishing itself from similar products that often use less powerful mobile GPU variants.

Key Product Features:

  • Next-Gen Power: Features an NVIDIA Blackwell architecture GPU with support for DLSS 4 technology.

  • Desktop-Class GPU: Empowers laptops with a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB for high-performance gaming, content creation, and AI applications.

  • Thunderbolt 5: Offers simple plug-and-play connectivity.

  • Daisy-Chaining: Supports Thunderbolt 5 for connecting multiple devices.

  • WINDFORCE Cooling: Cooled by an integrated WINDFORCE thermal system.

  • Full Docking Station: Includes 1x Thunderbolt 5, 3x USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, and an Ethernet port, with support for PD 3.0 fast charging.

  • RGB Lighting: Features an integrated RGB lighting system.

  • Compact Design: Designed for portability.

Measuring a remarkably compact 117 x 243 x 45 mm, the AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX is designed for easy transport. Inside, the custom WINDFORCE cooling system ensures sustained and stable performance, even during the most demanding computational tasks.

The device connects to a host computer via Thunderbolt 5, which provides up to 80 Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth. The graphics card utilizes 64 Gbps of this bandwidth through a PCIe 4.0 x4 connection. Crucially, Gigabyte officially claims that this high-speed link results in a performance drop of only 5% compared to installing the card directly into a traditional PCIe slot. The connection also ensures backward compatibility with USB4. In USB4 mode, the eGPU can work in tandem with a laptop's integrated graphics via Project G-Assist to balance workloads.

Beyond its graphics capabilities, the device also functions as a full-featured docking station, offering one Thunderbolt 5 port (USB4 compatible), three USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, and an Ethernet port, creating a powerful single-cable solution for any high-performance setup.
