Considering purchasing an Alder Lake PC? According to a recent report, you may be able to get one at a lower cost than expected. It is expected that Intel will reduce the prices of its 12th-generation desktop and laptop processors, leading to a decrease of over $100 for high-end chips.

Sources cited in the report from Taiwanese publication DigiTimes suggest that Intel is in discussions with certain PC vendors to reduce Alder Lake prices by up to 20%. This move comes after Intel raised its CPU prices in Q4 2022.

Like many tech companies, Intel is facing challenges due to the current economic situation and declining consumer demand. The company has recently posted substantial quarterly losses, cut employee wages and bonuses, and cancelled expansion plans at R&D sites. Additionally, Intel is facing difficulty selling high levels of inventory while customers are reducing their stock. Reducing the price of Alder Lake, which features a hybrid core design, could be a way to offload excess inventory. However, DigiTimes notes that customers who purchased the chips before the new year are upset about the price drop.

Intel Alder Lake CPU prices could fall by up to 20%

Twitter user Harukaze5719 has compiled a table that displays the launch prices of Alder Lake chips, the prices after the Q4 2022 increase, and the prices after a 20% reduction. Some high-end models, such as the Core i9-12900 series and the Core i7-12700K, will experience price drops of over $100.

It’s important to note that these cuts only apply to tray processors sold in bulk to major manufacturers like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, MSI, Lenovo, etc., and the full savings may not be passed on to consumers. However, we can anticipate some decrease in Alder Lake system prices.
