Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Review-1

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, previously known as the unreleased 12GB RTX 4080, has finally been launched with identical specifications to its original name. However, Nvidia did not just change the name and leave it at that. They also announced a $100 discount, bringing the price down from $900 to $800.

This reduction in MSRP by 33% is excellent news for consumers, making the RTX 4070 Ti the best value for the GeForce 40 series so far. The graphics card is based on the AD104 silicon and boasts 7680 CUDA cores, which is only 21% less than the 4080, but these cores are clocked 4% higher. The L2 cache capacity has been reduced by 25%, and the VRAM has also been reduced by 25% with slightly slower 21Gbps memory used. The memory bus has been reduced by 30% to 192-bit wide, resulting in a bandwidth of 504 GB/s.

Additionally, the total board power of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has been modestly reduced by 11%, with a rating of 285 watts. Furthermore, the graphics card continues to use the TSMC 4N process and supports the PCIe 4.0 x16 interface.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Review-1

The 4070 Ti model does not have a Founders Edition release. Instead, Nvidia has delegated the task of designing the board to their partners. We have obtained several graphics cards from Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus for testing purposes, and we will delve into them in detail later on. For now, let us take a look at our test system specifications and proceed directly to examining the blue bar graphs.

The graph presented by Nvidia is highly deceptive as it claims up to three times better performance, but the comparison is between standard rendering on the RTX 3090 Ti and DLSS 3 on the RTX 4070 Ti, without any footnotes or explanations to clarify this fact. Despite having a good product, Nvidia has resorted to unethical marketing practices, which can create doubts in the minds of consumers. We believe that such poor marketing tactics are unnecessary and do not reflect well on the company.

To conduct our testing, we utilized a system powered by the Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor, along with 32GB of dual-rank, dual-channel DDR4-3200 CL14 memory, all of which were installed on the MSI MPG X570S Carbon Max Wi-Fi motherboard. Our testing involved a total of 16 games at both 1440p and 4K resolutions. Without further ado, let us delve into the data we collected.

In terms of Watch Dogs: Legion performance, our results show that the RTX 4070 Ti is on par with the 6950 XT, achieving an average of 146 fps at 1440p. This is a commendable result, as it makes the RTX 4070 Ti 11% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti, and only 5% slower than the RTX 4080, taking into consideration the fact that we were limited by the CPU.

Next up is The Callisto Protocol, and our test results reveal that the RTX 4070 Ti produced 122 fps, which is notably slower than the 7900 XT, being 17% slower at 1440p resolution. It is worth mentioning that this game has FSR2 enabled by default with the ultra-quality preset, which is why it is also enabled in our testing, and not something we have altered manually.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Review-6

When it comes to 4K resolution, our tests show that the 4070 Ti offers performance on par with the 6900 XT, being only 8% slower than the 6800 XT, which is a bit disappointing, considering that the latter can be purchased for under $600 at present.

What’s also noteworthy is that the RTX 4070 Ti fell behind the 4080 by a significant margin of 30%, which indicates that the testing conditions were not particularly favorable for Nvidia’s new “$800” GPU.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Review-7

Moving on to Forza Horizon 5, our test results demonstrate that the 4070 Ti performed exceptionally well at 1440p resolution. It fell behind the 4080 by a narrow margin of just 4%, but still managed to surpass the 7900 XT by an impressive margin of 13%. Moreover, it outperformed Nvidia’s previous generation flagship, the RTX 3090 Ti, by a substantial 25%, making it a fantastic outcome.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Review-8

At 4K resolution, the 4070 Ti’s performance was more closely matched with that of the 7900 XT, but even then, it managed to stay ahead by 6%, delivering 104 fps. It was only 11% slower than the RTX 4080, which is a respectable performance.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Review-9

Our Rainbow Six Extraction tests produced some competitive results, with the Radeon 7900 XT and RTX 4070 Ti delivering almost identical performances.

This is a positive outcome for the 4070 Ti as it not only matched its Radeon counterpart, but it also outperformed the previous generation’s flagship by a 5% margin. Additionally, it was only 19% slower than the 4080, which is a solid performance.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Review-10

While the 3090 Ti did manage to take the lead at 4K resolution, the 4070 Ti still performed just as well as the 7900 XT. Additionally, it was only 23% slower than the 4080, which is still an impressive result.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Review-11

The performance of the RTX 4070 Ti in Far Cry 6 is not particularly impressive, especially at 1440p, where it performed similarly to the 3090. However, it’s worth noting that we were heavily limited by the CPU in this test, so these results may not be very useful for evaluating high-end GPUs.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Review-12
