Rainier IG5236

Rainier family includes two members targeting different applications: The IG5236 targets , and IG5636 for data centers and enterprise applications.

Rainier IG5236 , implemented in 12nm FinFET CMOS process, is an industry-leading PCIe Gen4 x4, NVMe 1.4 SSD controller with capacity size up to 8TB.

The IG5236 supports DDR SDRAM with (32+8)-bit or 32-bit wide data bus. Rainier has eight NAND channels, supporting MLC, TLC and QLC with either ONFI 4.1 or Toggle 2.0/3.0/4.0.

The IG5236 is built with the highest-level security with multiple data encryption and protection schemes including AES, SM2/3/4 (China state key), SHA, RSA, ECC, CRC, and end-to-end data protection.

Leveraging InnoGrit’s proprietary ECC technology, data endurance and retention are largely enhanced to deliver better reliability and ultra-high performance for SSD solutions.

Benchmarks and Testing

CrystalDiskMark is a disk benchmark software. It measure sequential reads/writes speed, measure random 512KB, 4KB, 4KB (Queue Depth=32) reads/writes speed, select test data (Random, 0Fill, 1Fill), provide theme support and Multi-Language support.

unnamed file 1073

During our CrystalDiskMark tests, we managed to get an excellent read speed of between 7,441-7,463 MB/sec, which is just phenomenal. Writes speeds reached a high of between 6,763-6,771 MB/sec, which falls in line with our expectations.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

ATTO has created a widely-accepted Disk Benchmark freeware software to help measure storage system performance. As one of the top tools utilized in the industry, Disk Benchmark identifies performance in hard drives, solid state drives, RAID arrays as well as the host connection to attached storage.

Anvil Storage

Anvil’s Storage Utilities is a powerful tool that was designed in order to provide you with a simple means of assessing the read and writer performance of your Solid State Drive or Hard Disk Drive.

unnamed file 1075

During our Anvil tests, we managed to get a 4K QTD16 Read IOPS score of 164,479.49. While  4K QTD16 write IOPS score was at 328,488.42 which is truly astonishing.

Load Temps

At full load, temperatures reached a high of only 66 degree Celsius, which was surprisingly low. I’ve seen other PCIE 4.0 Gen4x4 SSDs on market reaching much higher, so at 66 degrees Celsius, the Viper VP4300 broke our record low for full load temperatures.

Verdict and Conclusion

Well, what can I say … except I’m truly stunned by the performance of the Patriot Viper VP4300 SSD. With read speeds of up to 7,400Mb/sec, and a write speed of up to 6,800Mb/sec … the Viper VP4300 is one of the fastest SSDs we’ve tested so far. This is all thanks to the to the super fast Rainier IG5236 SSD controller from Innogrit, which supports PCI-E 4.0 Gen4x4, NVMe 1.4 and 3D TLC NAND. You can find out more about the SSD controller at Innogrit’s website.

unnamed file 1077

During our CrystalDiskMark tests, we managed to get some astonishing read speeds of between 7,441-7,463 MB/sec, which is just unbelievable. Writes speeds were also impressive with a high of between 6,763-6,771 MB/sec.

The Patriot Viper VP4300 comes in sizes of  1TB or 2TB, and comes with 2 heatshields. One is a super thin graphene heatshield, which allows you to install your SSD in tight spaces (or laptops), and the other is a chunky but sleek-looking all black Aluminum heatsink. During our tests, the load temperatures were surprisingly low, reaching a high of only 66 degrees Celsius.

You can buy the Patriot Viper VP4300 Gen 4 x4 M.2 2TB SSD for around USD $449.99 from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3mLfA2m … Based on these prices I think it is a little bit expensive, but you are getting a 2TB SSD.
