This generation of NVIDIA Ampere architecture graphics card is a huge upgrade, for the most powerful RTX 3090 at the launch, NVIDIA even promoted a wave of 8K game concept, in the game even 8K resolution RTX 3090 can still run to more than 60 frames, can be said to bring a new game experience, but the game itself is also important to optimize, such as the recent “Cyberpunk 2077
TweakTown tested the performance of GeForce RTX 3090 in Cyberpunk 2077 at 8K resolution on an Intel i9-10900K and Z490 motherboard. The game effects settings were all set to maximum and the ray tracing was set to “Psycho”. The most demanding settings were used, and they were exactly as expected. Without DLSS on, the maximum frame rate is 6.6 fps, setting DLSS to “Quality” doubles the frame rate to 12 fps. Changing the setting to “Ultra Performance” provides 31 fps. With ray tracing disabled, the frame rate can go up to 38 fps.
The reason for the poor performance may be the lack of video memory, 24 GB of GDDR6X is not enough to run Cyberpunk 2077 in 8K without DLSS. after disabling ray tracing, the memory footprint can be reduced to 21 GB, which may be mainly a game optimization problem, such a large video memory can not cope with it, the game card and then increase the memory is really hard to imagine.
But even though the performance is terrible, the game graphics are really good. The details and light effects of Cyberpunk 2077 on 7680 x 4320 resolution are amazing, and it’s really exciting if it runs smoothly, and finally the editors of TweakTown think: NVIDIA released the latest Lovelace GPU architecture before there can expect near 8K 60FPS performance in Cyberpunk.
