The MasterLiquid ML240 Illusion is one of the newest releases from Cooler Master. This was first introduced the 2021 CM showcase virtual event. At first glance you wont see where its possible to even have as many lights as it does packed into the pump unit. Hence the name Illusion. This has a stealth factor when the unit isn’t lit up. Even the fans, other than the white fan blade, have a stealthy look to them. All the magic happens when the power button is pushed. The MF120 Halo fans light up all over the place. The fins light up and you have 4 individual rings that also light up. Now for the fun part. The pump housing is blacked out with a transparent lens. Although the transparency isn’t really transparent looking. I honestly didn’t think much light was going to make it through the dark lens. If you continue through this review you will find out exactly what I’m talking about. The pump is the 3rd Gen dual chamber you can find in all of Cooler Masters newer product line. This has been a quite and decent performing pump design.
The MasterLiquid Illusion, a new cooler boasting stunning visuals and lighting brilliance. The MasterLiquid Illusion line is available in 240mm and 360mm radiator sizes for your various system cooling needs. The MasterLiquid Illusion redefines lighting visuals with all new design features to the MasterLiquid Series. With 12 Addressable RGB LEDs integrated into the all new translucent pump, the color options are spectacularly customizable. Complemented with MasterFan MF120 Halo fans equipped with 24 dual loop individual LEDs per fan, lighting features are more than even visual enthusiasts can handle. The Illusion is not only elegant, but extremely capable as well, featuring the 3rd generation Dual Chamber Pump for excellent cooling performance. The ML240 Illusion is also available in the White Edition, for those who want to match this stunning cooler in their clean bright setup.

Now let us move on and see the packaging and contents.
The cooler will arrive in a tightly packed package. I slightly shook the box to see if I heard any of the product moving around inside. Everything inside the package was well place and nothing had been damage in the transit. The unit is plenty safe while being shipped. It’s always good to know what the manufactures packaging looks like incase you are buying from a third party.

MASTERFAN MF120 HALO
MasterFan MF120 Halo, a new series to the MasterFan family, provides a specific air cooling solution ideal for CPU coolers and chassis in-take fans. With dual Loop Addressable RGB Lighting ensuring the most vibrant display of Color for your coverage and generate high pressure airflow. MF120 Halo is fitted with multiple layers of our exclusive noise reduction technologies and a perfect blend of fan blade design that put together work in harmony to cool your entire case and its components in silence.
HYBRID FAN BLADE DESIGN
Air Balance Fan Blade Combined with Wave Shape Blades, Inspired by Jet Engine and Helicopter Blade Gives Your System Static Air Pressure Without Compromising Airflow.
The installation is no different than any other AIO cooler I have come across. Nothing new and nothing that makes it any more difficult than anything else I have come across.
As you can see in the pictures above, the installation of the backplate and heatsink are a breeze. Thanks Cooler Master for the effortless design. Now as far as where you plan on putting the cooler in your rig can vary in difficulty.
Test setup and Testing Methodology
The system used for testing is listed in the table below. Ambient temperatures were kept at 24 degrees Celsius +/- 1 degree. The thermal paste used was Noctua’s NT-H2 (for testing consistency). The fan speed was set to Full. The idle temperatures were recorded after 10 minutes of idle and max temperatures were recorded after a 5 minute torture test using Adia 64 CPU System Stability Test and recording the Cores values and taking the average.
When new processors arrive benchmark tables always have to start over. So this limited sample size shows up in the chart. Hopefully we will have a i9 11900K soon, that we will have as a permanent test bench. For now we temporarily use a 11600K that we got our hands on.
|CPU||Intel Core i5-11600K (Rocket Lake)|
|Cooling||MasterLiquid ML240 Illusion CPU Cooler|
|Motherboard||Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Master|
|Ram||Zadak Spark RGB DDR4-4133 32GB Kit|
|HDD||Samsung 960 EVO 250GB PCIE M.2 SSD|
|PSU||Antec Signature Series 1000W|
Now we get to the good stuff the results. As you can see in the graph below we have the Idle temps for the ML240 Illusion. This chip hovers at a cool 28 degrees Celsius. Almost ambient temps!
Alright LOAD temps! The ones that really matter. The ML240 Illusion faired pretty well coming in at 52 degrees Celsius. Only time will tell where this cooler will rank in future tests but I am pretty confidant it will compete with the best of them.
Noise can be a important factor for some. If we have a open case design and the fans might be exposed, we don not want record setting noise coming from our cooler. This not the case with the ML240 Illusion. As you can see in the graph above the fans at full speed hit 31 dBs with a dual fans. Just to note, the actually hearable noise from the fans are not distracting at all.
Now lets move on to the Conclusion and Verdict!
Conclusion and Verdict
If you are one that likes to keep your rig outfitted with the newest and greatest then the Illusion may be what you are looking for. Like the name states, the lighting capabilities are truly an Illusion. As you may have noticed the pump doesn’t look like it would have very much RGB. This can be an awesome feature if you are looking for something stealthy. Honestly the smoked transparent pump lets the light blast through with out any detriment to the color or brightness. The fans also have more than average RGB. There are 4 separate rings along with the fan blades. If you want a subtle look before the real show, the Illusion is a perfect choice.
So, how did the ML240 Illusion do? The things I liked: I liked the pump performance. I always closely listen and check the hoses for vibration an 100% at a speed setting. Both the noise and vibrations where very minimal. In fact the noise was almost inaudible. The vibration was just enough to let you know the pump was working and moving fluid. I also really like the MF120 Halo fans. These fans are quite and move a decent amount of air at 1800RPM. 47.2 CFM and 1.6mm H20 to be exactly. I also found the mounting hardware easy to use. Lastly, the hoses are braided which adds to the high quality look. What great if your motherboard doesn’t have a connector for the RGB you can utilize the included controller which is a nice bonus for those motherboards that don’t have that function.
