Forspoken is the first game to utilize Microsoft’s DirectStorage API, which enables the use of NVME SSDs to decrease loading times. Recent tests, however, have shown that this implementation may have some drawbacks. In a benchmark conducted by PC Games Hardware, the tested data showed that while NVME SSDs did reduce loading times, the frame rate was about 10% lower than when using a SATA SSD (75 fps vs. 83 fps). The 1% and 0.2% lows (minimum fps) were unaffected. The tests were conducted using Windows 11, an Intel Core i9-12900k, and an Nvidia RTX 4090. It is uncertain how the results would be affected by changing settings or using less powerful hardware, or even which SSDs were used in the benchmark.
